Heat pump installation for four townhouses

This project involved a comprehensive heating system modernization for a row of four townhouses in Großbettlingen, Germany. The primary objective was to replace outdated systems with high-efficiency Samsung EHS Mono heat pumps.

Scope of work

A full-scale heating system modernization for a row of four townhouses, replacing conventional heating with advanced, high-efficiency heat pump technology.

Technical components

Systems: 4x Samsung EHS Mono heat pumps.
Innovation: Includes R290 (Propane) unit – eco-friendly, ultra-low GWP refrigerant. Integration: Full DHW (Domestic Hot Water) coupling with electric backup heaters for maximum reliability.

Location

Großbettlingen, Germany

Implementation time

2 Weeks (Comprehensive execution for all four residential units).

Project overview

In the municipality of Großbettlingen, Baden-Württemberg, we successfully completed a large-scale heating modernization for a row of four townhouses. Our team installed four Samsung EHS Mono units, including a cutting-edge propane-based (R290) model, delivering a highly efficient and eco-friendly heating ecosystem for the residents.

Key components

The project spanned four identical residential units. Each installation utilizes Samsung’s compact Monobloc technology, integrating both space heating and Domestic Hot Water (DHW) into a single outdoor unit. The installation was swift and non-invasive, requiring no structural changes to the building’s interior.

Three standard high-performance units 8 kW R32-based models

tailored to residential demand. These units feature an oversized heat exchanger, ensuring reliable operation even at temperatures as low as -25°C.

One next-gen propane unit (R290)

An eco-premium 5 kW option with ultra-low GWP (Global Warming Potential). This unit delivers exceptional efficiency and is capable of heating water up to 75°C—perfect for high-temperature demands.

The heat pumps were seamlessly integrated with the existing heating infrastructure, leveraging the original hydraulic and electrical systems to minimize costs and installation time. Hydraulic Balancing: For every unit, we performed precise hydraulic balancing to ensure optimal flow distribution and pressure throughout the entire system. Reliability & Comfort: Each system is equipped with an integrated backup heater for peak demand security and a 200-liter DHW tank, guaranteeing a constant and reliable supply of hot water for the occupants.

Implementation timeline

The entire installation process was completed within two weeks, ensuring minimal disruption to the residents’ daily lives. For effortless management, each system is integrated with the SmartThings app, allowing users to remotely control temperatures and monitor energy consumption in real-time.

Key benefits for Großbettlingen residents

Maximum energy efficiency The systems generate up to 16 kW of thermal energy from just 4 kW of electricity, resulting in a 40–50% reduction in heating bills compared to traditional gas boilers.
Environmental leadership The use of R290 (Propane) significantly minimizes CO₂ emissions, aligning the property with Germany’s ambitious climate goals. The system operates with zero local emissions and a minimal carbon footprint.
Premium comfort & reliability with ultra-low noise levels (<50 dB), extreme frost resistance, and professional hydraulic balancing, these systems guarantee stable and silent operation regardless of the weather.
